Complexity blindness

The Community Pharmacy Patient Safety Group (CPPSG) is pleased to introduce two new Share and Learn resources exploring the concept of complexity blindness. This emerging area of work has been identified by CPPSG members as a common factor in some patient safety cases, where intense focus on a complex task can unintentionally divert attention from other important safety cues. These initial resources aim to raise awareness of the issue, encourage discussion within pharmacy teams, and support consideration of potential mitigations in practice. Complexity blindness is an area that CPPSG is continuing to explore, and further examples will be added to the learning resources over time as our understanding develops and additional case studies are shared.
