This September marked the four year anniversary of NHS England (now NHS Improvement) and the MHRA’s Patient Safety Alert which directed all large community pharmacy organisations, and the NPA on behalf of independent pharmacies, to identify a named Medication Safety Officer to oversee safety improvement and medication error reporting and learning across their organisation.
Soon after the Alert was published, the community pharmacy MSOs united in their commitment to advancing patient safety culture and practice, and the Community Pharmacy Patient Safety Group was born.
Each year, the Group set out some core priority areas to work on, and 2019 is no exception. At our November 2018 meeting we agreed the following priorities for the next year, many of which are ongoing priorities carried over from previous years:
